What must I do to be saved?

The Bible clearly teaches that one must hear and do the will of God in order to enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 7:21, 24-27). That will of God includes believing (John 3:36; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:7); repenting of one's sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30); confessing the name of Christ (Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:10); and being baptized for the remission of sins (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; 22:16). Then one must continue to live faithfully in the sight of the Lord (Revelation 2:10).

Why don't most churches of Christ have instrumental music?

This question reverts to one of Bible authority. Simply because an action has not received condemnation does not mean it has received authorization. For example, when God told Noah to build an ark of gopher wood, He did not have to tell Noah not to use any other type of wood. Certainly all would recognize that because God did not specifically forbid the use of oak or pine, Noah did not have the authority to use them, for God did specify gopher wood. Likewise, as the Bible says in Ephesians 5:19, "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord," God did not have to say "do not play" or "do not dance," for those were not granted authority by their mere exclusion.

This passage also makes mention of the "speaking to yourselves." This was a reciprocal action. It was not to be done by one individual to another, each was to be a participant. God, however, did specify an instrument through inspiration: the heart.

The purpose of singing in our worship to God is two-fold. First, it was to be done "to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:29). Second, it was to be done to one another with the intent of "teaching and admonishing" (Colossians 3:16).

What is the Lord's Supper?

Just before Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, he ate the Passover feast, an annual Jewish memorial, with His disciples. Using the elements that were before Him, unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine, Jesus commanded His disciples to eat such as a memorial to His death. The unleavened bread is representative of the Lord's body, which was broken (1 Corinthians 11:24; Matthew 26:26). The cup, the fruit of the vine, represented His blood which was shed (1 Corinthians 11:25; Matthew 26:27). "For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come" (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Where are the headquarters for churches of Christ located?

Churches of Christ do not have a wordly headquarters. The New Testament churches were established with autonomy. That is, each congregation of the Lord's church was presided over by a group of men known in the Scriptures as elders, bishops, pastors, presbyters, overseers, or shepherds (Acts 20:17, 28; 1 Peter 5:1-4; etc.) Those men had no authority beyond their own congregations, and their authority was derived from Christ (Hebrews 13:17; Ephesians 5:23). Christ was declared to be the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:23; Colossians 1:18). Since Christ still lives and is sitting on the right hand of God (1 Peter 3:22), He is still the head of the church, directing through His Word (John 6:63; 12:48), and no mortal man has the power to usurp or remove that authority from Him.
